TuriyaTalks S3E8 : New Age Skillsets, MOOCs & Jobs of The Future

You must have heard many people say that if you are good at something, don’t do it for free. But that “something” needs hours of hard work and determination to be developed in the right form. Remember what Will Smith said? He said, “Talent you have naturally. Skill is only developed by hours and hours and hours of beating on your craft.” The last episode of TuriyaTalks Season 3, also started with a discussion on the same. We were blessed to have Mr. Rajdeep Bhattacharya, a new-age thinker, entrepreneur and educator, accompanied by our co-founder Sandhya Sutodia, who talked about the topic – New Age Skillsets, MOOCs & Jobs of The Future.

MOOCs or Massive Open Online Courses is influencing the mindset of people towards seeking online education irrespective of age. Back in the past, schooling and vocational degree did not have any relation with the practical knowledge required in the industry but MOOCs have bridged the gap providing knowledge that could be applied in the corporate hemisphere. Companies are looking for candidates who are technologically advanced, have technological skills, and can get the job done in the stipulated time.

Mr. Bhattacharya said, "Emerging technology is becoming widely popular in the education system." Teachers have to be acclimatized with the new teaching format along with the students as going digital has become the new normal, especially during this pandemic situation and the future.

Platforms like Coursera, Talent Edge, Udemy and so on use MOOCs to establish themselves as study centers in areas outside tier 1 and tier 2 cities where high speed internet is still an issue and low internet connectivity can be a barrier for education. The best part about these platforms is that the lectures can be downloaded and the assignments can be uploaded any time. There is no restriction on the time of accessing the lecture. Also, certificates are given after the completion of these courses.

Mr. Rajdeep ended the session by saying "People should not rely on a particular platform or course, they should streamline the necessities as per the requirement of individuals and then take the decision regarding their future.” So keep on reading, keep on asking question because the more you know, the more places you’ll go!
